Belief: Life and The Holidays

Do you leave your life behind for ‘the holidays’?

I was speaking to a client the other day.  She made the most profound statement.  She said: “I leave my life behind to accomplish everything I have to for the holidays.”  I sat there in amazement (not showing on my face of course, I am more of a professional than that).  This lady who does not often have the words with which to express what she is feeling or sensing was able, in one sentence, to summarize what happens to many of us during the holiday season.

We leave our lives behind to do everything that we deem necessary during the holidays…rather than engaging our life in the holidays and enjoying them to the hilt.

Is this perhaps why we are all so exhausted on December 26th?  Is this why December seems like such a blur?

Do you leave your life behind to accomplish all you believe you need to do for the holidays and in doing so ensure you will not enjoy or remember them? How might the holidays feel/look/seem if we were all to keep ourselves totally engaged and in our own lives.

This is the question my client’s statement had me considering.  What might it look like to stay totally engaged?

How would you like to consider shifting some of your long-held  beliefs?
